The thought of making your own Wedding invitations from design to execution can be
daunting.
Here at The Paper Place we share tips and tricks to demystify the whole DIY process.
Invitation ideas are available for many themes including Beach, Garden, Vintage,
Classic, Modern, Rustic, A La Natural (Recycled), Dramatic, Black and White, Bling, Over
the top and more. Incorporated in some of the ideas we have to share with you are our
beautiful handmade Japanese papers for an Oriental theme.
Using ideas from various designs we have on display we can help you design an invite
that is unique to you.
Where do I start?
Consider what shape you would like your invitation to be i.e. Square, one third of an A4,
one quarter of an A4, half an A4 or a full A4 sheet folded. Check that the envelopes are available to
fit the size you want.
Which ever shape you decide on, consider if you would like your invite to just slot into
the envelope as a single sheet, or if would like it folded in a pocket style. We have
pre-cut cards available in Square and DL shape (one third of an A4).
Alternatively a simple invitation can be created by just using two layers with a backing
card and complimentary paper on top.
Now a colour scheme. This can be the colour of your Wedding gown or the Bridesmaid's
dresses, or it may be related to venue or your culture.
When considering design, your invitation should match the style of your wedding. It might
be formal or relaxed, Beach or Garden etc
We can then help you select papers that compliment each other adding ribbon or an
embellishment to complete the look and give a professional finish.
Printing
Most of our papers are intended for laser printing, but some of the more decorative and
glitter papers are intended as trims and features only
Trace (or Vellum) and metallic pearlised papers in particular are not recommended for
ink-jet printers. It is always advisable to purchase a small amount of paper to check that
it will work for you through your equipment.
At the Paper Place, we have templates available to assist in setting up your layout. You
just simply type your invitation in the space provided.
In a world dominated by emails and texting, remember how special it feels to receive a
truly handmade invitation.
The dollars you save in designing and printing the invitation yourself will be
substantial.
